Great Blue Hole – Belize
The Blue Hole is one of the best diving destinations in the world. Home to the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere and the second largest in the world, it was named a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1996. The blue hole is an almost perfectly circular, naturally formed coral wall. The stretch within spreads 1000ft wide and plunges down to a depth of 450ft. If you make your way down, descending 130 ft you can see caverns and stalactites hanging from their ceilings. The reef is home to bull sharks and whale sharks.
Manta Ray Night Dive – Kona, Hawaii
The Manta Ray night dive is one of the most unique dives in the world. The dive takes place 5 miles offshore from Kailua Kona, The divers use flashlights to attract huge schools of silver baitfish that shimmer in the light. There are also a number of underwater lights placed on the ocean floor that attracts plankton and in turn the beautiful enormous Manta rays. The manta ray’s glide in through the dark waters, some with a wingspan of 16 feet! You can spot a number of different marine animals such as giant turtles, sharks, whales stingrays and more. Hawaii once held the title of having the biggest marine reserve in the world, a title now held by the great barrier reef in Australia.
Liberty Wreck – Bali, Indonesia
Every photographer’s dream destination, the liberty wreck is a reef in Indonesia that consists of a wide range of corals. The reef is home to over 400 species of fish and marine animals. The Liberty wreck dive is named after the USAT Liberty carrying machinery for the United States army during world war 2. The wreck is just 30 meters from the shore and is a suitable dive for divers of any qualification. You can still see guns, toilets, boilers, anchor chains and a lot more.
Tiger Beach, Bahamas
Recognised as one of the most eco-friendly diving destinations in the southern hemisphere, the tiger beach dive in the Bahamas is a dive you will never forget. A small shallow sand flat about an hour long boat ride away. The waters surrounding the Bahamas is home to the world’s healthiest population of sharks. The dive will get you face to face with giant Tiger sharks that grow up to 14ft. The feeders use a bait kept on the seabed to attract the sharks and you could have 7-17 sharks around you at all times. You will also spot a lot of lemon sharks on your dive here. The tigers are slow and methodical but also one of the fiercest predators of the ocean so give them their space respect these magnificent beasts.
Barracuda Point – Borneo, Malaysia
Barracuda point in Malaysia is famous for its schools of barracuda that move in a tornado-like fashion. In 2016 the authorities set up Malaysia’s largest marine park in Borneo.The reef stretches across a total area of 16,846 hectares. The reef is teeming with fish, turtles and you have a really good chance at spotting parrot fish. The reef attracts white tip sharks in search of food.
