I always get a hold of the right friend to harass with questions like \u201cHave you eaten that? And that? So do the guts flow into your mouth?\u201d The curiosity never dies.<\/p><p>The last time I felt my stomach <em>churn<\/em> was when I watched an episode of Kalki Koechlin&#8217;s travel show. The actress ate (very reluctantly) a bowl of silkworms, a local delicacy. Without generalising, I think it can be said that the North East is India\u2019s hub of bizarre foods- they\u2019ve got dog meat, silk worms, rotten potatoes, Jadoh (pig intestines and chicken blood), frog legs and more. However, there&#8217;s tough competition from other parts of the world as well.<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-940 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Untitled.png\" alt=\"Untitled\" width=\"658\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Untitled.png 658w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Untitled-300x181.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 658px) 100vw, 658px\" \/><\/p><p>Here are 6 of the <em>weirdest<\/em> foods from around the globe. This one&#8217;s not for the faint-hearted <em>because<\/em> it comes with pictures! &lt;&lt;<em>Insert evil laughter&gt;<\/em>&gt;<\/p><h4>Cobra Soup<\/h4><p>Hong Kong is littered with snake soup shops. While most of them are harmless, one of their delicacies is not- the Cobra Soup. The deadly reptile first has its fangs removed as soon as it\u2019s brought in. The first bit is the<em> bile sack<\/em>, that is served <em>raw\u00a0<\/em>for good health. The locals call it <em>Chi,<\/em> or life force. The meat is quickly shredded, boiled and incorporated into the liquid component of the soup. <em>Eat it before it eats you!<\/em><\/p><p>Adventure Foods Rating: 3.5\/5<\/p><h4>Chaprah- Red Ant Chutney<\/h4><p>This surprisingly tasty and crunchy side dish is found in our very own Chhattisgarh! India is known for its sweet, savory and spicy chutneys, but this one\u2019s clearly got the bite (pun intended)! The main ingredient? Red ants and<em> their eggs,<\/em>\u00a0dried and crushed with spices and salt.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-929 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/indian-red-ant.jpg\" alt=\"indian food adventure\" width=\"560\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/indian-red-ant.jpg 560w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/indian-red-ant-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/>The formic acid in the ants is said to be of medicinal value. The local <em>Dhuruva<\/em> tribe calls it quite an adventure because eating it will feel like setting your tongue on fire. Suddenly the <em>Bhut Jolokia<\/em> seems quite tame!<\/p><p>Adventurous Foods Rating: 4\/5<\/p><h4>Casu Marzu- Maggot Cheese<\/h4><p>Found in Sardinia; cheese made with sheep milk and infested with <em>live maggots.<\/em> The EU banned this but it can still be found on the black market. The cheese is first made and the crust removed, to invite flies to lay eggs. It\u2019s then left for months for the eggs to hatch and turn into larvae. The cheese is usually eaten with the maggots alive; dead maggots indicate that the cheese has gone bad. Now, maggots can jump pretty high when threatened, so diners need to watch their eyes!<\/p><p>Not only must you watch out for jumping maggots, you also must chew them properly before ingesting, because if they enter the body alive, they could make <em>holes in the intestine<\/em>! Oh well, the wine that\u2019s paired with it might make the pain disappear!<\/p><p>Adventurous Foods Rating: 5\/5<\/p><h4>Almost anything at Guolizhuang<\/h4><p>Most of the dishes at this Beijing restaurant are made from <em>animal genitalia.<\/em> Even though they\u2019re given inviting names, they\u2019re just ox, sheep, goat and even yak penises, cut into various shapes. Because of their uncommon offerings, the restaurant&#8217;s\u00a0waiters\u00a0must explain each dish\u2019s properties. Except, instead of chocolates, the biscuits are stuffed with <em>wasps!<\/em> These wasps are hunted by professionals, dried and incorporated into the cracker mixture. The Icelandic shark carcass is first buried in an underground pit and hard pressed with stones. This allows its internal fluids, poisonous, to drain out of the body. It&#8217;s hung and dried for months, and then shredded into strips and served.
