But beneath all that serene exterior, there is quite a thriving Kerala adventure circuit.<\/p><p>Kerala is awesome to visit this time of the year- The weather is quite chilly and in most places, you won\u2019t even need to switch on the fan. Looking to ditch the \u2018touristy places\u2019 and explore Kerala a different way? Here are some options you definitely want to check out:<\/p><h3>Kayaking, Alleppey<\/h3><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2233 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled.png\" alt=\"Untitled\" width=\"640\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled.png 640w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Untitled-300x188.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p><p>If you\u2019re having a chat about Kerala, and someone doesn\u2019t mention \u2018backwaters\u2019, is it even a legit chat about Kerala?<\/p><p>The best way to explore Kerala\u2019s backwaters is to set foot into a kayak and float away! Kayaking draws in a lot of tourists, particularly in <em>Alleppey<\/em>. It\u2019s kind of a strange, palatable contrast- You\u2019re moving through the serene environment in an adventure-packed way.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/adventure-history\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" role=\"img\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/14.0.0\/svg\/1f4a1.svg\" alt=\"\ud83d\udca1\" \/>Checkout how kayaking originated<\/a><\/p><p>You\u2019ll have so many opportunities to \u2018stray away\u2019 because Kerala has innumerable lakes and canals. This kayaking tour lasts about 3 hours. It begins at <em>Pallathurthy<\/em>, a place near <em>Alleppey<\/em>,\u00a0which is best known for its backwaters and houseboat cruises.<\/p><p>You can interact closely with the locals living in the area and observe their daily lives. As you move along the waters, you truly understand why this place is a huge tourist attraction.<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Trekking, Idukki<\/h3><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2249 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/activity_image_1490785766-66251-1.jpg\" alt=\"activity_image_1490785766-66251\" width=\"1224\" height=\"764\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/activity_image_1490785766-66251-1.jpg 1224w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/activity_image_1490785766-66251-1-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/activity_image_1490785766-66251-1-768x479.jpg 768w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/activity_image_1490785766-66251-1-1024x639.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1224px) 100vw, 1224px\" \/><\/p><p>You need some outlet to burn off those calories from all that <em>Sadhya<\/em> food. Seriously, have you seen those guys heap mounts of rice on your leaf? They <em>never<\/em> stop!<\/p><p>During this trek, you will cover 2 locations- <em>Chokramudi<\/em> and <em>Phantom Head<\/em>. The <em>Chokramudi Peak<\/em> lies in a secluded spot\u00a0and is amongst the least explored hills of <em>Idukki<\/em>.\u00a0You can\u2019t really find much on the internet about this place. So, guess what? No tourists! Not too many, anyway! The climb here is physically and mentally tiring-so you\u2019ll have no room for boredom.<\/p><p>On the <em>Phantom Head<\/em> trail, you\u2019ll find a skull-shaped rock lying over a small boulder, hence\u00a0the name.\u00a0You can see a stunning view of <em>Idukki<\/em> from the very top. There is the <em>Anaerangal Lake<\/em> on one side and the <em>Meesapulimala<\/em>, the Western Ghat\u2019s second-highest peak, on the other.<\/p><h3>Cycling + Kayaking Tour, Alleppey<\/h3><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2235 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/087products-for-tours-1140x530.jpg\" alt=\"087products-for-tours-1140x530\" width=\"840\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/087products-for-tours-1140x530.jpg 840w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/087products-for-tours-1140x530-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/087products-for-tours-1140x530-768x485.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/p><p>Holy Mother of Adventure! A mega experience- Cycling and Kayaking, <em>all rolled into one<\/em>!<\/p><p>This tour lasts about 8- hours and goes through Alleppy or <em>Allapuzha<\/em>. The city is famous for its luxury rice barges, and Coir (coconut fibre) factory units. Not to forget the backwater tours. <em>Alappuzha beach<\/em> has the 19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century Alappuzha Lighthouse. The city also has some ornately planned snake boat races at <em>Punnamada.<\/em><\/p><p>The first half of the day, you will be cycling on the route south of <em>Kochi<\/em>, through the rustic country. Stop on the way to chat with fisherfolk and observe their <em>simple lifestyle.<\/em> You then break for lunch at a desolate beach with some wholesome <em>Keralite food<\/em>. After lunch, hop into the kayaks and explore places that houseboats can&#8217;t crawl into!<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Discover Scuba Diving in Kochi<\/h3><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2237 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/pexels-photo-410881.jpeg\" alt=\"Kerala adventure\" width=\"1568\" height=\"976\" srcset=\"https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/pexels-photo-410881.jpeg 1568w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/pexels-photo-410881-300x187.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/pexels-photo-410881-768x478.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/advensure.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/pexels-photo-410881-1024x637.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1568px) 100vw, 1568px\" \/><\/p><p>Didn&#8217;t we say that this place is full of surprises! Kerala is not <em>particularly<\/em> famous for its Scuba Diving courses- which is why you <em>should<\/em> take it.<\/p><p>If you want to try scuba diving, but aren\u2019t <em>quite ready<\/em> to take the plunge into a certification course,\u00a0DSD is for you.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0not a scuba certification course, but\u00a0is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. Also, if you do decide to pursue the sport further, which, we&#8217;re sure you will, it&#8217;s an advantage. Because\u00a0DSD skills can be credited towards the PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Course.<\/p><p>It&#8217;s only an introductory course and you don&#8217;t even have to know swimming. The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is <em>highly protected<\/em>. It has sanctuaries of Kerala and Tamil Nadu all around it. Also, very few humans out here. That <em>definitely<\/em> means something good- its flora and fauna are in the pink of health, Smithers!<\/p><p>Valparai is a mid-elevation hill station with tea plantations surrounded by evergreen forests. As you drive to the town, you pass a sanctuary famous for its population of leopards, elephants, boars, lion-tailed macaques, gaur, spotted deer, sambar, and Giant Squirrels.<\/p><p>The area is rich in birds, including the Great Hornbill.
